Very good question.  The kid is a comp sci major.  You would think he would want to work in an IT company.  In short, his mom won't let him.  I know...but that's a battle between his mom, his dad, and him.  The really sad part about it is that now, while he's still in college, I can help him.  He's on an equal playing field with his peers.  When he graduates with zero job experience, I won't be able to help him.  How can I justify giving a position to a kid with no experience over a kid who has been working for me for a number of years and has already proven him/herself?  And what's worse is that my question is going to be asked by every employer he applies to who also has applications from college students with real work experience.[/quote]

Dad gets it but chooses to not get involved with the decisions that his ex wife and son make.  My step son goes home to his mom during the summer for breaks so I guess his mom still dictates his life.  Yes, it's a shame.  But it's not an arguement I'm willing to have in my marriage.[/quote]
