Many people commute into D.C. from other places.  I am a little confused though - your husband has a job in DC and you do, too?  Are you going to be living off of 60K total between the two of you or is that just his salary?

$120k/yr in DC is very, very little.  In fact, you won't actually be living in DC or a close-in suburb on that.  Or rubbing shoulders with the professionals you talked about.  As a point of reference, my adminstrative assistant makes more than your DH will be earning. Come to think of it, so does our nanny.....[/quote]
