The NYT now bends over backwards to be inclusive in the announcements probably to atone for all the years when they weren't. Despite being owned by a Jewish family, the paper used to be quite picky about who it would cover, and this was well into the 80's. I know because good friends of my parents were devastated when their daughter didn't make it in. They have always covered Jews, but the announcements would appear on Monday. I think it was under the premise that Jews married on Sunday rather than Saturday because of Shabbat.[/quote]
