This is not really accurate. Lawyers do get a chunk, yes, but it is usually a percentage (say 15%) of the total settlement and must be approved by the parties and then a judge. One can argue it’s a lot, but it’s definitely not ‘most of it’. The real sleeper issue is that many settlements are structured as ‘reversions’ and whatever isn’t collected by the plaintiffs goes back to the company. So there can be a wink wink understanding between the parties to make collection less than easy. Lawyers still get their % off the top. [/quote]
