We let him choose where to apply. He said he was looking at the strength of the engineering programs specifically more than the schools. The only one I suggested was Vanderbilt, which didn't work out and wasn't a top priority for him. My kid's at Blair. Even if you're not in the magnet, you can request to take some magnet classes with a teacher's recommendation and that's what he did. Congrats to your son as well!
