I’m a fan of Georgetown but its campus is a dump compared to UVA’s.

Its endowment is small. Meanwhile, a third of UVA students are out of state and paying near Georgetown/Hopkins prices, while getting an annual appropriation from the state that is equivalent to a distribution from a $6-10 billion endowment.

Don’t fall for this trap of simple thinking on public vs private unless you want to make poor decisions.

UVA student:faculty ratio is 14:1 versus 11:1 for Georgetown, 16% of UVA classes have more than 50 kids versus 12% at Georgetown. These aren’t huge differences. UVA is not huge for a flagship.
