I’m a Jewish Zionist, who thinks the government of Israel is doing terrible things, and I think a majority of Jews, and maybe a large majority, understand that Islamophobia, Arabophobia and brownpersonphobia are the siblings of antisemitism. Jewish people with the commonsense of a goldfish can see that over-the-top attacks on halal meat, circumcision and hijabs can affect Jews as easily as Muslims, and that China’s persecution of the Uighurs, Burma’s persecution of the Rohingya, India’s persecution of its Muslims, and Sudan’s person Christians are as vile as the old Russian pogroms against the Jews. We need safeguards against people crashing bomb cars into both synagogues and mosques. If there are Jews in this thread who minimize the problem of Islamophobia or Muslims who minimize the problem of antisemitism, that’s just a reflection of the fact that there are good people and jerks in all societies.
I agree with a lot of your views. However, many posters have tried over and over again to carefully distinguish between “Israel” and “Jewish people”. They have used terms like “radical, extremist Zionists” to ensure that the segment of the Jewish population that includes you is not caught in the crossfire when Israel’s policies and actions are discussed and subjected to criticism. The intention has been to clarify that it’s NOT the entire Jewish community or the concept of a Jewish homeland that is objectionable - rather, it’s the abhorrent conduct of Israel as a nation and the toxic views of many Zionists (whether Jewish or not, since we know that many of the most influential Zionists are not even Jewish). And to be clear, I mean those Zionists who are blindly, unconditionally supportive of Israel’s policies and actions (no matter how gruesome), which represent the greatest impediment to peace on this planet. But guess what? The radical, extremist Zionists intentionally, repeatedly use you as a human shield. They hide behind the religion and the culture, and they make people like you feel criticized when posters have gone out of their way to explain that you are NOT being criticized. They smear every statement critical of Israel’s policies and actions as “anti-semitism”. They smear everyone making those statements as a “terrorist” or “terrorist sympathizer”. They hijack terms like “moral clarity” and slap noble-sounding labels all over their toxic views to try to sanitize those toxic views and deceive readers. The bottom line is that most critics I’ve seen here of Israel’s policies and actions have sought to laser-focus their criticisms on the disease in the system. Unfortunately, the disease repeatedly seeks to evade accountability by distorting the criticism and using human shields as a sacrifice. You’re not being targeted at all. Radical, extremist Zionists are using you as a human shield.
