This is so true.  I'm the PP who's the same age as Diana and I don't think I've ever seen such an intense, world-wide outpouring of grief as when she died.  I can remember watching Peter Jennings announce that she had died - total shock.  I also remember driving down Mass Ave past the British Embassay and seeing the flowers - they lined an entire block and people lined up outside for hours just to sign a memorial book.

The massive outpouring in the UK finally forced the Queen and Charles to come out of their palace and acknowledge the crowds and massive display of flowers and cards and stuffed animals that piled up in front of Buckingham Palace.  They got so much criticism because they didn't come out for days to address the crowds and acknowledge their grief.

Nobody since has evoked such grief and devotion.  [/quote]
