It’s a very nice school for a bright pre-professional kid. Hyper intellectual kids or people who want academic careers would do better at an Ivy, top LAC, or even a flagship state university.
r Thanks, PP. By pre-professional does that mean- definitely wants to go to law school or medical school? I guess my kid would qualify as hyper intellectual, and is going to major in something pretty obscure/academic, but he’s also a striver/climber and I have a feeling he will end up as a lawyer. I can’t decide whether to steer him to a smaller, DC-hooked up place like Georgetown, or to a big research university. He’s gotten into both, and is still undecided. Basically- what I’m asking is, what is a “preprofessional” vibe and do students ever end up leaning that way just because the school is? If you think you might want to go to law school, is it better to be at place like Georgetown or a place like UMD?
