Vastly different philosophies and sports abilities. So what are you actually comparong?
Do you know what the word “vastly” means? They are different, yes. They are not “vastly” different.
I beg to differ. No one’s recruiting for sports from Gds.
Huh, what? GDS didn't have the best volleyball team in the DMV area by luck. Now, they aren't like the WCAC and try to have championship teams in every sport. Sidwell isn't really all that different. They try to be competitive across the DMV in basketball and tennis...but they aren't really recruiting much in football or baseball or many other sports where they field middle of the pack teams even in just their own conference.
In the case of volleyball, it's more that the program attracts girls who want to be in a strong program. That's different than recruiting.
It doesn't work that way. You don't consistently have top teams in the DMV without a coach who understands the talent at the 7th/8th grade level and reached out to that talent. There are plenty of options at other schools that also produce top teams, so you don't win the student by chance. The GDS coach also coaches at one of the top DMV Club teams...that's not a coincidence either. GDS didn't use to be tops in volleyball...they decided to become tops and recruited to make it happen. Sidwell doesn't just hope to get lucky in basketball. The coach also coaches top AAU teams and recruits players to Sidwell.
GDS isn't offering aid, though, and other schools do. That's the difference. GDS is attracting top talent because they now have a good program that girls want to join. Plus, coaches are not allowed to contact players. Players must contact coaches first if they are interested in a particular school.
