The CEO of Planet Fitness was interviewed by the NYT in an article that appeared yesterday. She says that because people are losing weight on GLP1s, they are seeing an uptick in gym goers. The weight loss makes people more confident about going to the gym and when you are on a GLP1 you are encouraged to lift weights to combat muscle loss.
I have lost weight using a GLP1 and, for the first time in a very long time, I joined a gym. I now feel healthy enough to actually move and work out. I am now motivated in a way that I was not when I was seriously overweight (it felt like going to the gym was silly and not worth it). Taking the shot for me has about regaining health and going to a gym/regular exercise and strength training are very much a part of that.
