I personally see worse behavior from regular gym goers. As someone who was a newbie a few years ago, the new people are all hiding on the treadmill, in the corner with dumbbells or wandering around the floor trying to figure out what to do. I was so anxious in the gym the first time I basically wanted to be invisible.
Same. I always felt really judged as a newbie in a gym and the regulars were so incredibly rude to me as an obese woman - twice I had people flat out tell me I didn't belong there. I am fortunate enough to have a basement with room for equipment - btw, I am no longer obese. I have probably paid far less on pro-level equipment and even random subscriptions I've tried over the past 15 years than I would have in gym fees anyway (plus it's now two adults + two teens using our home gym).
