DD was deferred. Very somber mood around here. We were pretty surprised based on what we were being told by her CC and the fact she is in a feeder school. 35 ACT, 3.95 UW GPA, strong rigor, leadership, brother and grandfather attended, lots of service and religious activities, unique summer internship helping in a research lab. She got into Georgetown, so that is a good backup should things not work out, but she really has her heart set on ND. Trying to see the upside of Georgetown right now...closer to home (for my selfish reasons), in a nice metro area, warmer weather. I wish Georgetown had the same level of spirituality as ND because DD is very strong in her Catholic beliefs and that was part of the draw to ND. Hope if she does end up at Georgetown, she will find her people. She will also apply to BC, which she actually liked more than Georgetown, but RD might be tough. She doesn't want to take ND off the table by applying ED2 to BC. Honestly, she seems to be coping better than her parents...very resilient young lady. Very proud of her.
Very sorry to hear this. I’m an alum (as is my spouse) and our oldest daughter got in but several years later our younger daughter with a better record was rejected and not even deferred and it stung. Georgetown is a great alternative and there are plenty of strong Catholics there so there’s that. Obviously you know that many students would love to go to school there. I continue to be perplexed by posters offering alternatives to students who are being deferred or rejected. We’re talking about Notre Dame. Smart kids with knowledgeable parents are applying. They don’t need to be reminded that Villanova and HC exist, obviously. They know it already. Good luck to you!
Thank you for sharing. I think this is a typical story for many. She is actually very upbeat about Georgetown right now. Going to explore it more to see if it would be a good fit for her. She applied (will apply) to all the other top Catholic schools: HC, PC, BC, Villanova, Fordham. Accepted to Fordham and PC so far with merit. She liked something about all of them. We have options!
