It’s simple Alexandria - A decent club but will eventually lose the MLS Next badge. They have good coaches in the older age groups. My current son plays for the U16 MLS Next and we are happy where we are. SYC - A must win club and zero philosophy. Whenever we play them they tend to bring 5-6 coaches for help. I get it they need to win otherwise the revenue stops. If you like to win and have 8 players on the bench then this is the club for you. Most of there players come from recruiting and making promises. Achilles - another club I can see losing the MLS Next badge. They have players from DCU that end up not making the cut but even that’s not enough to help the club. Of all MLS Next teams we play against they by far have the nicest families. Who knows which players they actually developed or recruited. BA- Very tactical whenever we play. They seem to be the most well taught in our age group. We would consider moving to the club if they weren’t so far. NVA- They don’t have any players currently since they were still in ECNL I imagine the younger groups are good.
Ironically, Achilles just announced one of their kids will be moving to the Galatasaray academy, 2nd player in the last year to make it to Europe. Makai Wells trained under them before he left to avoid DCU and he has had USYNT call-ups and plays for NE Revs II. They are the most misunderstood club because they focus development vs wins and parents don't like the coaches temperament and their competitive environment. A-type attorneys and government officials just cannot wrap their heads around not being at top of the table. I would argue that if every club adopted their model and philosophy, we would compete with Philly and NJ for Mid-Atlantic supremacy. The goal is to get a kid into the academy. No reflection on the club if they don't stick.
I thought Makai Wells left Achilles years ago and joined Paragon when all the good players left Achilles to join Paragon as a new club? Any club in the DC area with rich kids who have parents with European citizenship have kids who can get into some level of academy in Europe It's not the dmv club so called sending them there
Who is Paragon again? I guess not so sustainable. I think 8 kids on my roster attend private school so should qualify as rich. They have German, Spanish, Italian, Brazilian, etc. passports. If we are the representatives of the typical DMV team, why don’t we have more kids in European academies?
The pp said a kid with the money and the family connections can get into an academy. The local club here has nothing to do with it can get into is about the right papers, it doesn't mean will get into
Why don’t we hear all about the European clubs the local teams send players? Hate on Achilles all you want (Achilles Stalker—what took you so long to post?), but they get it done.
Because the other clubs don't try to use any forms of propaganda possible to pseudo prop themselves up
So enlighten us. I hear about every clubs 3rd team winning the 7th bracket of tournaments like the Celtic Cup but they don’t publicize a kid making into a European academy 🤣😂🤣😂. Do tell what Alexandria, Arlington, SYC, NVA, BSC has produced lately. Not wins/losses. Individual player development to the next level where the club is no longer getting paid. “I’ll hang up and listen.” We are not with Achilles. But I have not heard about a major USYNT player from Alexandria, SYC
I know a kid from edp who went to a club academy in Europe The small grassroots he left from didn't feel the need to lie and pretend they sold him. The kid's parents and their private network gets all the credit Achilles is the worst performing club consistently in MLS Next locally So that obviously means Bethesda, Alexandria, BA, SYC, Arlington etc has just as good players and better If any of the players there have European passport and the right family connections, they can also go to a European club from Division 7 to Category 1 A lightening strike because a kid was at Achilles before leaving doesn't reflect on the program. Just that kid.
So…clubs will claim credit for D1 commits even when the player just started with the club in the last year (VDA) but a club would not boast sending a kid to an international academy?!?! Make this make sense. I’m still waiting for those international academy commitments from other clubs in the DMV. Let’s just set the record straight because you are highly ill-informed which is why I try to spend time on these forums: 1) Most small clubs in the area are not happy when a player leaves because of the loss of revenue. It is a great thing when clubs and coaches want your kid to rise to the next level and promote it. 2) You are correct in who gets the credit. I have more of an influence as a parent than any club. When my kid has accolades, at least 3-4 clubs and/or trainers will claim credit. Just the way it is. Let that go. 3) YOU INCORRECTLY VALUE DEVELOPMENT WITH WINS AND LOSSES. This is the biggest mistake people make in this area. I watched Bethesda paste Achilles. If I were a scout, 3 of the top 5 players on the field were from Achilles. I don’t know if they will ever have the numbers of other clubs to compete because most local parents chase status vs development. They also don’t care about physical size. They are anti-DC establishment which is why they are boutique. The thing is that you folks can’t recognize you are part of the same system that churns out soft players that folks up in NJ laugh at. Achilles does not have RAE that other people have spent months arguing because they take you as you are AS LONG AS YOU ARE WILLING TO WORK. If we took out top prospects and put them in an environment like Achilles, we would see what real potential looks like versus whatever they are doing over at DCU.
Achilles uses biobanded kids as much as every other MLS Next team. Stop lying As long as Achilles has the same abusive coaches demeaning kids and verbally abusing young players, no amount of propaganda on-line makes that a desirable environment for youth players The one or two players out of thousands who went through Achilles and ended up in Europe would have went to Europe no matter which dmv club they were with. It was personal, private, family connections.
