Just get rid of all the magnet programs. It’s putting resources that other kids need into programs that help the already advantaged kids. And yeah, I’m sure this will go over well with the striver parents around here. I have a kid in one of the programs and he would do fine and have challenging and interesting classes at his home school.
Unless your kid is in one of the two STEM magnets or RMIB, you don't have a kid in "one of the programs" that magnets were invented for. And that is fine. You are still perfectly entitled to voice your opinion on magnets. But don't use bogus claims to give yourself some higher authority on the matter. If your kid was in one of the top magnets, you would know that even top public high schools in the county offer classes that have been watered down significantly in recent years. Top students are bored to death and that is not good for anybody. Magnets are the only way for them to be challenged. I would be in favor of eliminating magnets if regular curriculums even remotely resemble curriculums that their peers have all over the world.
