Update on the church crypto scammers: So now that church members have put their hard earned money into this crypto brand a couple months ago, it has peaked and is now on the downward slide - people are losing money. These people promoting it are urging people to buy more on the downward slide and asking people to have faith and pray for it to go back up in value. Pastor says nothing.
The money likely isn’t real (eg what they’re seeing in their accounts is just #’s they can’t withdraw, the scammers have already taken the money). We had something similar happen to an older couple we know. I’d take this extremely seriously and report this to your local FBI branch / office, they’re the first stop for suspected crimes like this. You can stay anonymous if you’d like.
How do you know if you are buying it through a legit or scam website? How do people by Bitcoin?
If you don’t have experience buying via decentralized platforms, only use centralized platforms like Coinbase or Kraken that are 100% legitimate (and don’t move money from there into a no-name decentralized exchange). You can always transfer assets from Coinbase or Kraken to a physical hard wallet too (Ledger).
