Maybe because a college is more than just a degree factory.  Maybe wants a smaller school, maybe wants access to a stronger alumni network, maybe wants to go to school with a higher caliber students, maybe wants a school with a better sports program, maybe wants a school closer to home?  I can truly think of lots of reasons.[/quote]

my kid did choose UVA over VT engineering and I find this obnoxious. Way to make us look even worse![/quote]

+1  I’m a proud UVA parent and this is not a good look. I know numerous VT students and ALL are smart, driven and salt of the earth kids any parent would be proud of. However, I can see why parents get irritated when asked why their kids chose UVA’s engineering program over VT’s. Both programs are solid. [/quote]
