[/quote] Eh, there were no "states" 250 years ago, if you want to nitpick, but the majority of what are now the 50 states never had slavery. Vermont (state #14) was the first state to enter the union as a free state; all of the northern states had abolished slavery by the end of Thomas Jefferson's first term. I believe PP is referring to the Electoral College system, which was adopted in the 1780s (a bit less than 250 years ago) and was absolutely a compromise on slavery. [/quote]
