You can live amongst the normies in Rockville at $200k HHI, but the commute will suck.
Near Twinbrook metro - decent schools, under an hour metro commute and affordable with $200K HHI. Similar with a lot of Silver Spring neighborhoods - Four Corners, Forest Glen, a few of the areas due east of DTTS… also Wheaton/Glenmont which are a bit cheaper but also a bit rougher around the edges depending on where. Woodside, Woodside Park, Takoma Park - mostly out of your price range. Much further out than those areas - you sacrifice commute for bigger/newer housing. My wife and I are around $250K HHI and closed on a place in Forest Glen last fall although we could’ve gotten a larger/newer house in some further out Silver Spring area like say Colesville, or Gaithersburg.
