I don’t feel like dealing with a grinder at home
This might be the least messy thing one can do in a kitchen, aside from crackers and pre-cut cheese on a paper plate.
I use a grinder at my son's house and it's always messy, getting the coffee out without spilling some on the counter. I buy Folgers (usually, what's cheapest) for home because I guzzle coffee. MJB used to be a cheaper brand but several years ago it overtook the Folgers in price. I buy roasted beans to use at my son's house (he doesn't drink coffee) when I visit. Most people aren't old enough to remember, but coffee prices went through the roof in the mid to late 1970s. A lot of major brands added barley and/or chicory to stretch the coffee and keep the prices down. People bought it but weren't happy. My college food service did too. Their coffee was always bitter anyway (those gigantic food service coffee urns) so it was always about caffeine rather than flavor, but the barley stuff turned grayish when you added milk.I wonder if that will happen again with the tariffs.
