The PACER test is completely different, and most kids love it. The PE teacher usually split the class into 2 groups. They run back and forth from one side to another (about 20m). There is a series of beeps and they need to reach the line before the beep. If you don’t get there in time, you are done. A partner will count and record how many laps you did. The beeps gradually get closer together so they have to run faster toward the end. I like it because the “winner” is usually a kid who is reasonably athletic but also clever enough to pace themselves with the beeps.

It is part of a program called FitnessGram that gives PE teachers data on kids’ fitness level to drive their instruction. [/quote]
