The stats and ECs are good. But if you are looking to SCEA/ED to an Ivy, don't do HYP unless seriously hooked. Don't do Dartmouth unless you go to a feeder school. Don't do Penn if you are a rando from the mid-Atlantic, unless coming from a feeder school in PA or NYC. So for Ivies, that leaves Columbia - which is certainly a choice today. And Brown and Cornell, which are the only two schools you should consider for an early app to an Ivy from an unhooked student with the stats. The great thing about America is that there are a lot other schools outside the Ivies that are great. And where an ED app might be helpful.
Are there any feeder schools (public or private) for Dartmouth in the DMV? I don't hear about many kids going there.
I looked into Dartmouth admissions bc I thought it'd be a great fit for one of my kids. But it's a completely useless school for unhooked high stats kids. They seem to take a lot of students from NYC privates and New England boarding schools. The rest of the class is athletes, URM, and FGLI. That's it. There is zero space for anyone else. Pointless app if you're not in one of those boxes. Didn't bother applying. And there is no school in the DMV that sends a significant amount of students to Dartmouth.
St. Albans send 2-3/year out of 70. 13 over the past 5 years per their website: https://www.stalbansschool.org/about/meet-st-albans That's as much of a feeder as you get.
Sure, but I'm certain that includes Jake Tapper's family and the offspring of other famous DC alumni. Dartmouth really isn't a school for unhooked smart kids. And definitely not a place where anyone unhooked should direct an ED app, which was the original question. Go for it in RD. I think having a decent meal is a more sensible use of $85, but nothing ventured, nothing gained. Dartmouth is happy to take your app fee.
Agreee. But just need to clarify that Tapper's 2 kids are not at the Cathedral schools.
And his kid is headed to Michigan to row for the crew team.
