Assume you meant the fake nails that are long. Those are certainly tacky and just downright unhygienic.

You say that, but you don't realize it. You are in denial as to what happens. Why? 
And yes you should wash your hands after using the restroom, but long nails cannot be cleaned as easily or completely, so there's that. Nurses and care takers are forbidden from having long nails for that reason.
