You understand that a lot of people who are out of legal status came here legally, and then fell out of status for any number of reasons. I’m a lawyer who doesn’t handle immigration work and have in the past tried informally to assist a friend with an immigration issue and it was very challenging. The system is complicated and it is incredibly easy to miss a form or get your paperwork wrong etc. They’ve been scooping up people arriving at immigration court who are there for the very purpose of getting their status issues corrected. I don’t think that’s right.

Meanwhile, I have yet to see a single business owner arrested and charged for hiring undocumented labor. Not one. And you’d better believe Tyson Foods, Smithfield, JBS etc all run on exploited undocumented labor (including child labor.)
