I hear some of these coaches are very intense, sometimes unhealthy. Is that true?
Don’t play sports, esp in a competitive program if your kid can’t handle intensity. Competition is not for everyone but some athletes thrive on it. Too many parents blame coaches for bring too hard when it’s the player that needs to meet the standards of a high level program.
The better the lax program, usually the more “intense” the coach. Notice the schools with the most competitive programs get the most chatter on here about their coach(es). There are great coaches at schools that don’t have competitive programs -Maret being top of that list, also Sidwell. Of course those are two of the toughest schools to get into and GLAX isn’t an hook with their admissions.
Players should all be so fortunate as to have a coach with the talent and temperament of the coach at Maret. I’d have my DD look there if we could do it all over again.
+1. My DD doesn’t go there but she’s worked with the Maret coach in the past. She is really great and the school is very good academically.
Maret? It’s an ok school and doesn’t support athletics. Isn’t their team being relegated back to the lower division? If the coach is good she should move to a school that cares about building winning programs.
