It's not even celebrated in Mexico much except in a very local region where the Battle of Puebla took place, and even today it's more of a reason to just have a party there than anything regarding the battle with France. [/quote] It’s been celebrated by Mexican Americans for a long time. I grew up gojng to cinco de mayo festivals in the southwest in the 1980s. Family events with cascarones and burros and jamaica.
