Make Up Track Meet is scheduled. a big middle finger to the parents who made this a priority; we know who you are; we see your excitement at the track meets with the matching tents and all that. they are kids and it was traumatic. but great for adding to another thing for us to manage.
What? I don't have kids in track, but it seems like a good thing to give them a chance to actually complete this? They will go, they'll be safe, they'll have a different memory to store of their track meet. I am a trauma survivor... There is nothing more important confronting the thing you fear. Otherwise your world will shrink post trauma.
+1
Also, what is wrong with encouraging a group of athletes to celebrate/work hard after a season? Matching tents or non matching tents, glad the kids will get to make up their meet! Maybe some families will not attend, but if my kid was in the meet I would 100% be there both to celebrate my kid/school and also to show my kid that you can’t hide/live in fear.
I am very glad this meet has been rescheduled. Between the options of shrink from it or reschedule it, the latter is definitely best. But let's be serious -- these kids are 8-10. They are not athletes and there has been no hard work. This kind of huge meet with dozens of schools is not something DCPS should be doing in the first place.
