Target's mistake was ever pushing DEI in the first place. Let that be a lesson. Don't venture in to that territory. If a bisexual wants to buy a t shirt, it's on the shelf. If they don't, it's on the shelf.
It’s certainly not hurting Costco.
YES! Every time I shop at Costco, it's packed!! People are voting with their feet.
Costco has been packed for 20+ years. Are you new?
NP: 7% net increase in sales. That’s a lot for a company as big as Costco. And massive membership renewals at 90%. Sounds good by most standards — and definitely indicative of continuing improvements. Costco has done well — and now they’re doing even better. https://www.marketplace.org/story/2025/05/22/costco-doubles-down-on-dei-and-benefits
This is from 2022. 92.6% of people renewed then too. The retention rate for members has always been very high. Costco provides a great value to customers. It’s no wonder they are doing well. I’m just not so sure it can be teased out how much DEI has to do with this. My Costco (the one is Sterling, VA) is one of the highest volume Costos in the country. It is always bustling. But that has been true forever. https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/costco-puts-off-membership-fee-increase-renewals-hit-all-time-highs
