They are the highest paid jobs and support their local economies. Profits repatriate to the HQ's country. Healthy companies create healthy domestic stock markets. That is why China seeks to copy all of our US tech businesses. It's why Japan's government doesn't want to let Nissan or even Mitsubishi fail. Domestic auto companies are also part of the security infrastructure for a nation. Manufacturing know-how and facilities can be repurposed.
