Serious question. We are adults who are trying to help our own kids and possibly the other kids, too? Goes something like this (actual posts): OP: What school would you not want your child to go to even if admitted. Answer: Vanderbilt. Never believed a school from the south would be good. Plus they just bought a campus in New York City??? Seems sketch RESPONDER: Sorry your kid didn't get in.
Frequently it's a poster uttering nonsense or seriously old information and not actual facts. Take for example the Northeastern bashers, who talk about it being a commuter college. Sure, that was true 30+ years ago, but today it attracts top students, receives over 100,000 applications, and accepts only top students. So, why do people continue to bash/knock a school with low, single-digit acceptance rates? There is no reason other than they are bitter that their own child didn't get in to the Boston campus, which is extremely selective. This is just one example, there are many others, but why else would anyone bash any particular school? The sarcastic response is calling out the poster for their nonsense
I think NEU is different because there is at least one NEU poster who posts ridiculous things (NEU is equal to x high level school or considering NEU versus UVA because both are so hard to get into). Saying, “sorry your kid didn’t get in” is the same as saying”I know you are, but what am I?”
No, it's especially for NEU. Every time, one or two person(s) bring in 30 years old stuff and 'gaming' while there has been a bunch of schools actually cheated and got caught. That's why objective data is provided compared to 'high level schools'. NEU vs UVA is a matter of personal preference and situation. I suspect at least one of the tolls is UVA fan.
“Sorry your kid didn’t get in” and dunking on NEU for having aggressively gamed the rankings system are not the same thing though.
Again there has been many schools actually got caught cheating, but this person keeps bringing in 'gaming' whenever Northeastern is mentioned. I never seen anyone immediately saying oh cheater school when Emory, Columbia, UCBerkeley, etc. come up. Also if performance of the school exceeds its ranking, and rivals those 'good schools', why are you so bothered? The person(s) has some sort of mental problem. “Sorry your kid didn’t get in” seems to be the right response.
Don’t want to derail, but NEU’s press and interview from admin acknowledge they gamed the system. This isn’t a label people are making up; they are parroting back the press (which was based on NEU interviews).
Yes, NEU was open and transparent about improving performance and ranking. That's much much better than cheating like these schools, https://www.nbcnews.com/news/investigations/caught-cheating-colleges-falsify-admissions-data-higher-rankings-flna1c8964083 https://www.thecollegefix.com/college-rankings-fraud-more-top-schools-caught-breaking-the-rules/ Some of the high profile examples, Columbia - https://www.thedp.com/article/2022/07/college-rankings-columbia-inaccuracies-irresponsibility UCBerkeley - https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/uc-berkeley-booted-from-u-s-news-best-college-list-misreporting/ Emory - https://www.foxnews.com/us/emory-university-discloses-it-sent-false-data-to-rankings-groups Don't you agree? I've never seen anyone immediately attack these schools for cheating every time, yet this person(s) trolls Northeastern every single time. Why is that? I can't think of any other reason but 1. Kid got rejected 2. Mental problem
