Some of them just stand there or run away from the ball. Or some try but they just kick the ball wherever without any sort of thought about where it will end up. Or they have literally no touch. The average kid on a fourth U9 team may not be good but if they are signing up for travel they tend to at least be coachable with an interest in learning and improving. That is very different from the random rec kid whose parents signed them up just to keep them moving.
