Elon Musk does deserve a lot of credit for helping to popularize electric cars, and also solar panels. We had panels on our previous house that were installed by a company that was later acquired by Tesla, so I've even done business with him. But as someone said in a piece I read last year, Musk is the reason that I own an electric car and also the reason it isn't a Tesla. I don't think you need to feel ashamed of driving a Tesla now, but it is really remarkable to see how rapidly he's turned people who agreed with what he was doing only five years ago completely against him.
Musk had Tesla acquire Solar City solar panels to bail out his cousins business https://www.latimes.com/business/story/2019-09-23/solarcity-tesla-merger-shareholder-lawsuit
Correct. We had installed the panels years before that though. (Before his cousin got involved at Solar City, I think.) When we sold the house and installed new panels on our new house, we didn’t buy them from Tesla.
Oh, no, not before his cousin got involved in SolarCity (his cousin founded it); our installer was acquired by SolarCity after we installed. Anyway, my point is, I drive an electric car and have bought two solar panel systems — things Elon is really into — and I find him incredibly irritating now.
