Hyperbole and the opposite is true. Please give one example of contemporary liberals being extreme? A desire for sound government, functional democracy with checks and balances to power, universal health care and high quality public education is not considered extreme in any other western country.

Conservatives now condone radical extremism, Dismantling of federal government in unconstitutional ways, defying rule of law, and giving a convicted felon unfettered control of both legislative and executive arms of government.
