"Ontario's Conservative Leader Doug Ford is "ripping up" Ontario's $100 million contract with Elon Musk's Starlink in the wake of U.S. tariffs on virtually all Canadian goods, he said in a statement Monday. The contract, signed in November, was meant to provide high-speed internet access through Starlink's satellite service to 15,000 eligible homes and businesses in rural, remote and northern communities by June of this year. Ford said Ontario will ban American companies from provincial contracts until U.S. tariffs are removed. "Ontario won't do business with people hellbent on destroying our economy," he said in the statement." https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ford-ripping-up-province-contract-with-starlink-1.7448763
That's roughly $7,000/home. The contract shouldn't have been awarded in the first place.
Per home or business. But yes, this deal was a Muskian scam from the start. Most of the funding was for "capacity reservation", because the starlink network that was sold does not actually exist. Ontario was paying for limited amount of internet access that was already sold to other people. https://www.pcmag.com/news/ontario-to-spend-100-million-on-starlink-subsidies-for-rural-canadians
