Catholics believe the eucharist is the actual body and blood of Christ. Those who don't ascribe to that are not "in communion" with the Catholic faith and therefore aren't supposed to receive Communion in the Catholic church. I'm Catholic and don't think this should be such a big deal; but it is the priest's perogative. Unfortunately, I've seen poor ways of it being done. But I've also seen it done in far kinder and non-offensive ways.[/quote]
