SS is essentially a government-backed ponzie scheme.  Your contributions are NOT for you, but to pay the prior generation.  Your benefits are intended to be paid by the NEXT generation.  The system breaks down if population growth stagnates (or worse, declines).

Of course!  You’re so smart.  And everyone should know that the SS entitlement is not sustainable.  But everyone wants to kick the can down the road “just a little farther”.  But the farther we kick the can, the more abrupt and painful the scaling back will be.  Both parties want the other party to do the initial hatchet job—here the Ds might get a win by letting Musk fire-up the chainsaw.  Or are you afraid the younger generation will acknowledge that scaling SS back actually takes some burden off their back?[/quote]
