As someone raised Christian the people pushing me away from the church aren't atheists or people of other faiths, it's so called Christians like Trump. They're like the bog of eternal stench and it's hard to want to be associated with the religion anymore. I was raised in a church that was heavy on biblical scholarship and independent study so I'm aware of how much they've perverted the faith.
I'm curious in what ways they have perverted the faith? The evangelicals I know are following the bible to a "T", which is what makes them so abhorent to me. And of course, by extension, what makes the words in the bible abhorent to me also. I have learned some verses, as they were used against my family in horrifically painful ways to sever previouslly loving relationships, and those words are actually IN the bible. I agree with your opinion about the "bag of eternal stench" though.
This is Jesus said about what would happen in Matthew 10:34. You prove the Bible true: Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. You abhor the Bible because you hate God and love your sin.
