I am in a somewhat similar situation zoned for Langley. We have one kid in private and two kids in public. We have considered moving (unrelated to schools) to a new home within Langley or McLean or other areas like Georgetown, Arlington or MD. We know people from all over the place in both public and private. I don’t know anything about Madison. We know many people at Langley, cooper, Longfellow, McLean, Potomac, little Langley, basis, flint hill, Landon, Holton, sta, ncs, Sidwell, gds, Bullis, etc etc etc. I don’t think there is a difference in kids between Langley and McLean. They are the same kids. If you think the kids who live 2 miles are different, they are not. Langley and cooper are brand new buildings if that matters to you at all. McLean high is an old building. There is drinking and drugs at all the schools, public and private. I would not base any decisions on this or fights. Your kid can easily avoid these. This is a very competitive area. If your kid is smart and has a good head on his shoulders, he should be fine. I personally would stick with Langley. That is what we are doing.
I’ve sent kids to both newly renovated and unrenovated schools, and what goes on within the buildings is far more important than whether the schools have been recently renovated. Longfellow and McLean are both excellent.
I don’t disagree with you. I don’t think there is much of a difference between kids. Langley is brand new. McLean is an old building. As someone who already resides on the Langley side, I would not try to switch over to McLean.
I know Langley was renovated more recently but IMO McLean has some better extra-curricular programs (such as stronger band, crew, student publications). I also wouldn’t move just for schools but if OP is moving anyway would (and did) prefer McLean.
