DP - Where are these serious HS baseball players who don’t devote an ungodly amount of time to baseball in the off season? Which HS are you at?
You don't need to dedicate massive amounts of time to baseball. Not even pros practice year around. The truth about baseball and other sports is that your genetics and god given traits determine how good you're going to be. Life would be much better for kids and parents if everyone just accepted that you can't work your way to being a D1 Athlete. Rudy was a Disney movie and not real life.
NP: our at (very large UMC public) school you’d be iced out if you didn’t participate in offseason workouts and play travel ball offseason. Only exception would be an outstanding pitcher, maybe. Zero varsity baseball players play a 2nd school sport. However many friends have kids in smaller high schools or small private schools, and many of their kids play more than one seasonal sport. I think it definitely depends on the sport.
It’s actually shocking that your large school doesn’t have a larger pool of genuinely talented athletes to pull from.
