It’s true, we should have light chicken density instead of putting them all in one place. If all of your neighbors had a few chickens it would be a lot better than keeping them on a farm with the economies of scale, specialty equipment,  feed storage, and transportation. I’m sure that they will just ride the bus.

I don't see a problem with backyard chickens as long as you don't allow roosters. The smell isn't too bad in most cases. The biggest problem is that the local foxes and raccoons will be very excited by this development. When I was younger, we raised chickens on the family farm. My job was to open and close the henhouse and collect the eggs. The rooster did not like my daily theft. [/quote]

I mean the whole "let's have everyone farm chickens instead of having large farms" idea doesn't work.  Economies of scale matter.

Someone did actually try this once in the Great Leap Forward.  It resulted in famine.[/quote]

No China's Great Famine was not caused by backyard chickens. Like most famines, it was a distribution problem.[/quote]
