No way UChicago's ED acceptance rate is 4-5%. If it was they'd publish it, be transparent, and trumpet it. Every school jukes stats to put their best foot forward, but some (including UChicago) do it more than others. UChicago is still a great school and has come a long way in last twenty years (acceptance rate was about 40% in 2006). Still, lack of ED transparency is a red flag.
This is like arguing with my ex. No amount of truth is good enough. Everything is questioned because someone else misled them before they met met. You're just going to end up at home alone with no one willing to talk to you any more than absolutely necessary.
I'm sorry this happened to you. Relationships can sometimes be difficult. But I fail to see how asking for a modicum of transparency from an institution's admissions processes, particularly one that claims to be "Ivy Plus," is the equivalent of a gaslighting partner in a relationship. Or perhaps as parents who have been misled numerous times by universities purporting to say one thing, but in reality practicing the opposite, we have earned the right to be a little skeptical when universities fail to be transparent with their admissions practices. Nothing against UChicago in particular.
