1250+SAT, 3.0+ gpa for general administration. Higher if target more competitive majors.
Waaaaaay higher for CS. I know some with 1500 SAT get rejected for CS.
Not way higher. Just more random.
No, it's way higher. They halved the program last year. They will now only admit 100 transfers from both internal and external, and 600 direct admit. Two years ago, they admitted a lot more so it was a bit more random. Now they are culling the program of weak students. My DC is a junior taking high level CS classes (and math), and the weaker students are struggling big time. UMD wouldn't want to put their rep on the line by admitted students who can't keep up.
UMD INCREASED the number of direct admits from 450 to 600. Nearly eliminating transfers has nothing to do with firstyear admissions standards. https://undergrad.cs.umd.edu/cs-lep-faq-effective-fall-202
UMD admits major blind. Once they have been admitted, the student is then considered for limited enrollment majors. Direct admits to CS is overall likely 10-20% of the overall applicant pool who indicate CS as their major, based on the info the AO provided at the CS open house. Unfortunately none of the admissions stats by major is published.
