People drop the major because they realize it's not for them, or because they hit the wall intellectually. And no matter how smart you are, there is a point in math where you will hit the wall. Very common to realize theoretical math is "not for you" - you could do it, but you don't want to. That's where you want to be in a school with other options. [/quote]
