I told my husband while dating that I wanted to SAH when our kids were growing up. Thank goodness he was supportive and did not accuse me of gold digging and neither did his relatives. We’ve been married 20 years and they all tell me that the only reason he has a clean house and matching clothes and shows up to events on time is because of me! There is a lid for every pot. If he is mean or uncaring that’s different. But, I am a teacher and know some great male teachers that I’m sure make wonderful (if not high earning) husbands and fathers.
I was a SAH as well. I never went back to work, but we maxed our 2 retirements and are very financially well off. Every situation is different. Most of my friends wanted to quit their jobs, but sadly weren't married to men who supported that. Many aren't good with money management which didn't afford them to stay home.
