I’m completely against year round school and am hoping LCPS doesn’t head that direction. I love summer break.
Did you even look at the sample calendar? There’s still a summer break, it’s just 5-6 weeks instead of 8+.
Yes, but I much prefer a longer summer break that makes it easier to coordinate and travel with family in other districts.
The year round calendar had the majority of summer break in June with school restarting in mid July. Not ideal in any way.
Consider how miserably hot July and August are and how little you can actually be outside for a lot of the day during those months. Now add 2 weeks off in late September, 2 weeks in April for spring break and a 3 week break in December/January. Such a no brainer for me. So many more opportunities to enjoy time off vs 8+ weeks in 103 degree heat. I think it will be very popular with many families and staff.
Omg, yes! These old calendars are not taking into account the weather! We have had no snow for years. Summer is getting hotter and hotter. Couldn’t believe how many outdoor camps had to be canceled in our county this summer. Then scrambling to move some indoors. You can’t even enjoy the pool if it’s 110 degrees out. And most people still have to work. 2 week breaks each in Spring and Fall and a 3 week one in Dec/Jan? Off school most of June and July until the first or second week of August? Sign us up!!!
Where do you live? Because it snowed in DC LAST winter (& the one before that). Also, the highest temperature on record in DC ever was 106F. So, it’s not 110F. Sure, summers are getting hotter, but this post has so much hyperbole.
