That makes no sense. There are a lot of great VA in-state options. Why not attend one of those?
There is too much hierarchy. Alternatively, they could combine all of the universities (UVa, VTech, William and Mary, Gmu, Jmu, Cnu, Longwood) into one university and have a lottery for all who are accepted to decide who goes to which campus.
Maybe make it more like NC. UVA separate but then Virginia U - GMU campus, VAU - Longwood campus etc.
all of the public universities in NC are in the UNC system even if they aren’t named as such and many have minimal name recognition or high status. Most people outside of NC have never heard of UNC Pembroke or Elizabeth City State. Everyone in Texas does get to go to UT Austin, everyone In Florida doesn’t get to go to UF or FSU, and everyone in Georgia doesn’t get to go to UGA, it is what it is. Changing the way the Virginia universities are organized would just end up being a super expensive Reorganization and renaming that would probably end up costing millions for no reason.
+1. I grew up in in NC. Some are called UNC at …. But you go to the one you are accepted at. If you are accepted at UNC-Greensboro, Charlotte or Asheville, that’s where you go and that’s what your diploma says. You don’t anttend UNCG annd get a diploma that says “UNC” and get to put it on your resume and pretend you attended Chapel Hill. And some schools are East Carolina, Western Carolina, App State, etc. but there is zero practical difference between them and UNC— not Chapel Hill. It wouldn’t even be a reorganizing to be like UNC. Just renaming to UVA-Fairfax, etc. and the diploma would say Fairfax. You couldn’t pass it off as having attend the Charlottesville campus. Really, you have a solution in search of a problem here.
