Homework with flexible deadlines is best imo. Give it all out on Friday and make it due the following Friday. My kids have been in both private and public. The extra practice and parent involvement in what they are working on is nice. But having to do it every night is not. Some days we really didnt have an extra 20 minutes to sit down and work on it and it became a burden and annoyance. But if we could have worked on it over the weekend or weeknights when we were home more I wouldn't have minded.
I came here to say this. Yes, with flexibile deadlines, and time to complete over the weekend if that is a families preference. By upper elementary most of our evenings are packed with outside events. I am in favor of kids having some time to reinforce what they are learning, but it needs to be able to be completed on our time. If given out daily, I would object.
