What would be so bad about having a casino in Tysons?
There’s literally a million reasons. A casino will hurt local businesses, increase gridlock and public safety problems, lower property values, and encourage risky behaviors, while forever changing the character of our community. Casinos bring exponentially more crime.
That's far from settled fact: https://nij.ojp.gov/library/publications/does-presence-casinos-increase-crime-examination-casino-and-control https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0166046217300169 "Encourage risky behaviors." Like what? "Changing the character of our community." Who are you afraid is going to come to a casino in Tysons? Think carefully about your answer to that last question.
Same people who now take the Silver Line to Tysons and made it like Pentagon City.
Montgomery Mall is about to make a comeback due to lack of direct Metro transit access.
Isn’t Pentagon City doing better than ever these days. A new flagship Uniqlo and a Mango opened. While the smash and grabs have targeted the high end watch stores on multiple occasions though, the escape has been via car not Metro. (Strange how despite the high presence of police and secret service at Pentagon City during the last smash and grab when Blinken was shopping, the juvenile thieves still got away with the crime. I think the loss was in the hundreds of thousands of dollars.) Nordstrom (not specific to Pentagon City or Tysons) has lost tons of money due to their flexible return policies, not smash and grabs.
Better than ever? How long have you lived here? No, it is not.
I appreciate that PP says that it is “better than ever” while acknowledging the rampant and uncontrolled levels of crime. It’s pretty much self-refuting.
