I supported Harris for president but was ready to oppose many of her policies. I have similar issues with Trump. The Dems deserved to go down just as much as Trump. What is fascinating is how they missed so many obvious signs that they never had the mandates they thought they had for several years. The election had been very thing to do with Dem overreach on identity politics and nothing about Trump. Yes, he is a horrible person, but people already knew that. That is how egregious people felt those politics were. Sure, they like Obamacare but they hate being told things like xyz so you must vote Dem otherwise you’re a self hating so and so, or MAGA, or racist, or misogynistic, or whatever. Voters want balance and that’s why the same district will vote AOC and Trump. I’m not happy about some things Trump will do, but the Dem meltdowns are entertaining. I will spend the next four years thinking, I told you so. I have very little empathy for people like OP.
But that's OP's point - we aren't having meltdowns. We're over it.
+1 It's weird how many people I know and talk to are all in this same space. It must be some innate thing to our psychology for it to happen in this widespread way. My friends and family who belong to more vulnerable groups are not in this mental space. And some other people I know - mostly online - are in the full on panic space, doing things like moving their money out of American banks in case Project 2025 takes away the FDIC and/or women's rights to hold their own accounts. But most people I know, including myself, are not having meltdowns. We're tired and if you want to touch the stove, touch the stove.
Humans are by nature self-protective. If you are demonized for caring and told that you are arrogant and condescending and hateful for doing so and then you are definitively told that your care is not needed or valued, it would be insanity to keep trying. Most of us are not insane. We’ve been told the body politic wants Trump and his cruelty and destruction. So ok. I’m not going out on the heath to yell Lear-like at the gods. Got to take care of yourself and your family now.
Exactly.
