I'm the French poster from before. I've never felt pressure to cook the traditional meal, since I have no family expectations or traditions. Turkey is so dry and bland and I don't really enjoy pumpkin pie or sweet potatoes. My husband likes roast duck, and we've done a braised lamb as well. And then apple desserts or my favorite, cranberry tart: so pink!

+1 We stayed home in 2020 for the first time in years. Each DC got to request a dish (things like crab cakes or stuffed peppers), plus DH and I added our own favorites. My DCs were in charge of making desserts.  It was still traditional in the sense we had stuffing and mashed potatoes, which are my favorites, but there's no requirement for anything 
you don't like. Like PPs, I enjoy Thanksgiving because it ends up being a lot of work for a few hours and then lazy for the rest of the day. And it's the start of the holiday season.  [/quote]
